Becoming One

Denise Hansard  0:55
Hello everyone, I am Denise Hansard, I am one of the CO hosts for our Moving to Oneness podcast. I am here in Illinois and I am happy to introduce you to my beautiful co-host Meilin, who is Germany.

Meilin Ehlke  1:08
Hello Everyone,

Denise Hansard  1:10
Go ahead Meilin, we're ready to go.

Meilin Ehlke  1:13
Today, we are on video, and it has a certain reason because we have a wonderful guest today from the US, down in the South, close where to where I lived once in Georgia, North Carolina. Patricia wonderful that you're here today.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  1:30
Oh, it's great to be here. This is wonderful.

Meilin Ehlke  1:33
Yeah, and because you're going to bring us a beautiful gift. You are handy in using healing touch. Yeah, I love using my hands with everything, if you had touch, you know, my chair, my table, myself, a loved one. And I would love for you just to go in and what it brings out the healing touch. Also with our big conversation that Denise and I hold often with your dear listener, about a oneness, so what comes to your mind about Healing Touch and Oneness, or moving into oneness?

Dr. Patricia Suggs  2:22
Healing touch is very much like Reiki. It has a different starting point. Nurses actually came up with it.But what it does is, you're using your hands just like you do with healing touch. I mean with Reiki, and you can, if you rub your hands, really fast together for a little while, you know, just kind of rub them they get a little warm. And then you stop and you pull them apart, you can feel the energy between the two hands and you can even make it bigger or smaller. And that happen in with healing touch then you're going to take your hands and you put them, you can either touched the body, which is my preference, or if the person would prefer, you can do an inch away, has the same impact, as actually touching the body. And there are techniques we use but it's all, it's almost like your hands when you start working with someone, they just know where to go. Um, I found that over and over, it's just there's this connection that the energies, take on and you just know where the person could use the most help. Whether it's pain that they're having, or they don't even have to tell you where the pain is you're going to get there. Or they can tell you and just you can do extra work on that but it's a very intense. When you hold your hand, at least a minute, in one place, so if you touch your face or in the work you leave it just at least a minute then you're going to feel, begin to feel something. It takes at least a minute for it to, to really kick in and to where you feel it so you go in different areas of body, anyone can do it. I mean there's training for it of course but anyone can actually do it. I worked with people on you know the terminally ill floors palliative care. We  teach family members how to do certain parts of it that relaxes the person that that is dying and it really enables them to be much more peaceful. But it's also been proven that if you do healing touch with someone before surgery, and after surgery, they leave the hospital usually much quicker and their healing speeds up. It's amazing how well it does, but little things, you know, I used to, and still do some have sinus issues well they're a little movements, you can make. If you're having those, you're sweeping it away but you come close to the face and you just keep doing that. Or you just hold the areas that hurt. And eventually, the pain begins to recede. But it all shows to, it shows me that we are connected because when our energies, come together it's amazing what the results can be. You know, one example my son he was not a big believer at first, in how Healing Touch could possibly do anything. We were out to dinner and I just, you know put my hands slightly on his back or he was having pain, and just left it there, and it got very warm and that's the other thing you'll find is the longer you have your hand in one place, it gets very very warm, but that's mainly when you enable yourself to center, and to be at peace within your mind and your intention is going into that space. You know that's what you want to work on. After just a few minutes, he noticed the difference and later even told me he had pulled a muscle that massage didn't even work as well on him as just those few minutes, of a healing touch and it continues to work for a few days after you even do any at all. So, it helped me to understand too, myself better because I've found out that on the sentient being more I don't see auras. And I don't I'm not able to see things but I feel them. So when I'm working with someone if they have pain in their leg many times I get the same pain. It's like it, it transfers to me. So, the healing touch, Reiki all of those just enable us to see that we are connected. I mean our energy is, we are one. Because you can feel it anywhere. You can feel it, you know, even outside and I think Denise is going to talk about that some. I'm I remember leaning up against a rock, big rock in a park, and you could feel the energy in that. So, you know the connection is just beautiful because when you work with people. And then they begin to feel better and it enhances and the more you do it with someone, the better it gets. And it's just using slight touch you know it's not anything invasive. But it enables you to feel the connection between  everyone, because of the energy. And as long as there is some kind of connection like that then you can't deny that we're one. Yeah, they were all in it you know.

Denise Hansard  7:25
I love that Patricia I think that's wonderful because as we as we begin to recognize the power that we have just within our own body, through our heart, through our minds of what we want to create in life. And touch is one of those most important things. As you know scientifically referred that hugs everybody needs hugs, and especially right now as we're going through this time we're doing a physical distancing and I wish I had called it that as opposed to social distancing. Yeah, I think it would have been a little bit better. My family we're all having zoom calls for family time on Saturdays. Because my mom is there by herself. And that is the one thing that she says she misses is the hugs. And you know it's very difficult at this time. When you just want to reach out to someone and we're being told, we're being told, not even to touch our face, and to recognize that, if we recognize our own energy on the side. Even though we can't touch anyone else, we can still give ourselves a hug. It make new huge difference. So I love that.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  8:42
Yeah, it's amazing. It is what it can do and how it can bring you together and yeah and you know you can do healing touch at a distance as well. Yes, it is. It's amazing how that works you know there have been examples of people who've taken maybe a baby doll or something and they'll find out what the person that lives away what they're undergoing and then they work on the baby in the same place, and it has an impact. So it's just that our energy connects even long distances that it's there, and that you know in the touching guy I've worked in geriatrics for a long time on faculty and the older adult misses it. Everybody misses it, but just like we all need the touch they don't get it as much as we get older, the hugs become if our family has died or if they're living far away. People don't just hug us, like they do when we're younger, and so many times their only touch comes when they get their hair done if they're in a facility. Or even at an independent and they want it because somebody touches their head, and touches them. I mean we really hunger for it and I think in this time it's like I like better physical distancing too. You realize oh my gosh, you know we're not getting to do that as much so yeah the hugging yourself is a very good idea.

Denise Hansard  10:10
It's just one simple way you know and I'm especially like if you have people like I know I'm doing the family zoom calls, Meilin and I connect it this way, and even some other girlfriends that I have will have Friday night dinners. And so it's about it's just with the energy of seeing each other. Acknowledging through our eyes and reaching out. Yeah. Our soul begins to feed off of that. Until we can get to the place where again we'll be able to be together, because we will.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  10:47
And those times are going to be long.

Denise Hansard  10:51
They might get a little uncomfortable we got to be a little careful.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  10:56
Squeeze a little too hard.

Meilin Ehlke  11:00
Yeah, you know, it depends also culturally. So, more the English culture, Western cultures, we have a little less of the hugging. The further you go South in European countries they hug much more. Even in the greetings and I remember a long time ago when I was in school they were saying, touch babies, because if you wouldn't touch babies they would lose IQ and then feel neglect, right. So, touch and kiss and cuddle. And also, if you do they get more intelligence. They give a lot on dogs and other animals that touch brings more intelligent in the offsprings.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  11:48
A long time ago was a study on when babies weren't touched they can actually die from lack of connection with somebody, you know.

Meilin Ehlke  12:00
That is why in Germany you know, they want the school really quick start again so that the children can have connections with other children. Yeah. And if you're at home, for example, if you're lucky you have a pet. I have Puccini my cat. I mean, most of the night he just cuttles on my head. Even you know, if you uncomfortable for using your hands, that's okay some people it's depending how you grew up what you were taught what traumas you have experienced. But, pick a flower or buy a flower next time you're in the store, and just sense how it feels when this flower touches you, especially, if you can't go so much outside like Denise. It is like she has the woods right behind her, she can stay there for hours when the sun shines now, but if you don't, or a piece of cloth. And how important it, I believe, I'm a big believer in this anyway, even your clothes should be your second skin so every time you slip it over your body, your arms, it feels lovely comfortable. So every time in a way you treat yourself. You offer something beautiful to yourself, or a nice hairbrush, the way you take time for your self and your hair.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  13:28
Oh, absolutely.

Meilin Ehlke  13:30
And a hug gets used to people. I think now that's why it's so coming people can hire others to hug or they're hugging clubs, because it is so fulfilling to know that one is not alone, that you are not alone. That we are not alone.

Denise Hansard  13:47
Yeah, I think right now as we're being given this time to kind of go deep with it and to push a reset button and really come together in that way. It slows us down and that's what we want to pay attention to is, every moment is precious. When we're brushing our hair become totally aware put yourself into it. When you're shampooing your hair put yourself into it, and it's like you're being treated to something very special, you could do a  facial, you know.  When I go out for my walks, which I'm doing more of now, as the weather's getting warmer and doing the physical distancing and everything. I take those times where I'm totally present, and what's going on around me. You know with the little squirrels scurrying all over the place and the birds and the noises and the crickets and everything seems to have come more alive so it's about creating that awareness in every moment. Even to the point when you can take off your shoes and thoughts and play on the ground.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  15:07
I have more a lot lately, you going barefoot. I love the feel of the ground, and the grass. It is wonderful.

Denise Hansard  15:16
It connects you to Mother Earth, and that shows the oneness of everything, it's not just the three of us together and everybody else in our community as humans. It is Mother Earth, it is every animal plant insect even the murder Hornet, whatever. It is about taking yourself and becoming completely aware. In the moment that you have right at that moment coming from your heart, because that's all we've got.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  15:50
It is and that is so true because I find myself going out. We have a front porch, which I love, and rockers. I love to rock. And so I was just sit out there and just stare at the tree. We have lots of trees and there's you know it's in a neighborhood. Houses aren't two inches apart, I mean it's really an older neighborhood. So I just stood up there and just love it and then we'll sit down on the deck my husband and I will, and just listen to the birds. We have all these trees out back, and the birds. I've noticed more birds than I have ever noticed before, and the different sounds that they make. And we have ducks. Ducks are the only pets we have. We have rabits, dogs and ducks and so the ducks we will let me get so close I raised them since they're little babies so I rock them and I love them and all that but as they get older they get their duckness. And so they're not going to let you come to too close, but they're now, I've even noticed the ducks are coming closer and closer. And when we move towards them they don't all of a sudden fly, you know they don't fly their domestic ducks but they don't run off, and they are coming closer and coming more and more often we think we find them they like to come on the deck and their treat is dog food. So I will give them little bits of dog food as a treat. And sometimes just during the day we'll hear them well here this cracking and they're at the back the kitchen door just standing there waiting. So we give them dog food. But just that closeness, even with them, I mean they, it's amazing. You know, even when we can't touch them, they still come close enough that there's, we feel like there's that connection.

Denise Hansard  17:29
Feeling the energy because we all have energy. Yeah, I mean, everything within our bodies, it's an energetic vibration. We just have been vibrating at different levels to be able to get solidity or whatever to solid.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  17:47
And you want it to be high, you know you want your level to be high and I think you know I've tried to tell people some who just don't understand Reiki or human touch how that could possibly work. And then I think, you know, you tell them, or ask them well just don't you don't you know i mean you have to know, is because of electrocardiograms EGCs, that they're measuring energy within your, I mean it just shows your body's nothing but it's just all energy and so why wouldn't connecting energies work. Exactly. And they submit sometimes they're converted sometimes they're like no. But you'll see, it will work. And it does, it's amazing. Everyone who does Healing Touch will have different sensations, like I know when I'm hitting an area that is painful to the person because my hand gets that prickly, like little needles. Whereas if I'm just going over a place that's calm and not hurting. There's none of that. So each person notices something different when they're doing it, which again shows that there's a lot of energy, a lot of vibration going on when there's pain. And there's not you know and there's a very calmness and you can even feel the thickness which I never could do before. But you can feel the thickness in the air. You can just sense when the it's not right. When things just aren't flowing. I think if we all, like you were saying Denise, if we all really understood that and like, but you and Meilin were saying it's, we have that energy that we can help ourselves you know we can actually hold we can you know how and we can actually touch a part that's hurting and if we intentionally focus on that it will make a difference. You will feel the change in temperature. Your hands will get warmer and things will begin to feel better. So it's just understanding that the whole world's nothing but energy.

Meilin Ehlke  19:47
Yeah. It will relax everyone. Right? Speaking as a mom, normally every mother, it is  intuitively touches the spots where her child needs it. And I have two fun experiences, I also have really hot hands. I remember I had one hand on my son's chest, he was maybe four something like that. And he said: Oh, please mama take your head away, you'r a Hot mama. I was laughing so much.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  20:23
Hot mama, I love it. That is great.

Meilin Ehlke  20:31
So now during our quarantine here at the moment really,  I showed my son, old things that I had done when I lived in Atlanta. I did a lot of self healings through touch and massage, and one of them is, if you tap your whole body, you could start at your head and go down. And we went like from top to bottom front and back. And then he said oh mama it tingles and I feel energized. So everyone this is a good idea if you are feeling a little down or tired and you want to become creative and do something fun with your time, reconnect to yourself.  If you even feel a little bit more alone maybe do it on your balcony or on in your garden. Or when you feel a bit alone, go for a walk and connect to the sun or at night connect to the stars, because when you feel that on your skin, then, then you also know you're not alone.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  21:35
Right.

Meilin Ehlke  21:36
It invigorates you as well.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  21:39
Oh, absolutely. I like the tapping part that sounds good.

Denise Hansard  21:43
Well, there's a whole field around that called tapping or EFT. So yeah but it's similar to. It's about moving your body, getting back in touch with movement for creativity and moving our energy, whether you deem it as your Chi as an Eastern medicine and everything which is your force, your life force. Or things like Qigong or Tai Chi, you know, it's about just reconnecting with you in a way that has you pausing or that has you slowing down, becoming fully aware. And that is what we are being given at this time is to create each and every moment that we have. Right. So if we begin to feel anxious if we begin to feel overly worried, which right now, I will tell you I go in and out of it just like most of us are going into it. Because we don't know so many things that we don't know right now. That's the time that you go within. And that's the time that you begin the touch, whether the tapping, you know the hugs, or you go outside and reconnect and you go deep within. And this is where it lays.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  23:01
Oh, it does. And you can even lean against a tree, you know. Even feeling the energy of a tree. It's is there, you know, and if you if you are really intentional and lean against it and stay there longer you can feel it. It is just amazing to me. And you know I think when you mentioned Qi gong, I have taken some Tai Chi classes but there was a Qi Gong master who was also a chiropractor. I have neck and back issues and so I would go to him and he he very rarely touched. In fact, he never touched the neck or any of the parts he just did it all through, you know the the arms the legs I mean it was amazing. And I did. Oh, one time I thought I was going to have to have surgery the pain was so bad and after going into him. It was like, Oh my, I mean, and I've been doing great, ever since. So that touch is the way he did it and he knew just how to use my energy.

Denise Hansard  24:06
It was a connection and his energy to yours and understand how to use that. And you know we all can, as we go within and connect to our own, may the force be with you, our inner force, which is our chi or life force what makes us keep going. We can use that energy to heal our own selves and to heal others and to heal the world. Yeah, that's what we need now at this time. Patricia, this was wonderful.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  24:37
Oh, this was fun.

Denise Hansard  24:39
I love this Meilin anything else for you. As we begin to tie this up?

Meilin Ehlke  24:45
Really take in the energy from above, take in the air from the ground, take energy from others and play with it and send it around and send it within and send it out and it's like a dance and have fun. It's so important that we have fun I think.

Dr. Patricia Suggs  25:07
I think so too. Absolutely.

Denise Hansard  25:09
So, Patricia if people wanted to learn more about you, how can they reach you or what could. What could they do?

Dr. Patricia Suggs  25:16
Well, let's see. My best email. Let me give that. It is pksuggs@gmail.com. It's very simple. Um, phone number I don't mind giving that either it's a 336-918-2974. And I'm working on my website, and it's about done. But where you can find out more about what I do. And I find I end up doing a lot of the touching the healing touch, things like that in the midst of everything else I do, whether it's training or coaching, and you can go to my LinkedIn profile just look up my name, Patricia Suggs and it will bring up my profile and that tells pretty much everything that I'm doing now.

Denise Hansard  26:03
Perfect, and we'll put that information down below for everybody. And so from North Carolina and Illinois to Germany.

Meilin Ehlke  26:12
Thank you everyone for being you.
